Enlightened Minds: Bridging Science and Spirituality at IQRA High School
Exploring the Power of Storytelling: Middle School Students at Adelaide Writers' Week!
On Friday 28 February, a number of middle school students attended the Adelaide Festival Writers’ Week – an annual event which celebrates all things storytelling! This amazing opportunity saw the students engage in two sessions:
- Writing science-fiction and fantasy by authors Amie Kaufman and Lili Wilkinson, who spoke about what it is like to write for a career, where they get inspiration from, how they stay motivated, and even how to create more depth in characters
- The scientist Dr Matt Agnew presented on AI, discussing the ethical and environmental concerns amidst how it makes everyday life easier
The students enjoyed sitting in the shade at the Pioneer Womens’ Memorial Gardens, listening to the speakers, and even got the opportunity to ask some compelling questions. We are proud to see these students represent IQRA College in such a creative space, and encourage any budding writer to show their English teacher their personal work for feedback. Who knows? Perhaps one day they will be presenting at Writers’ Week

Year 7 Girls Dive into Discovery at Happy Valley Reservoir!
As part as our unit on Water, the year 7 girls visited Happy Valley Reservoir on Monday 3 March. We received a warm welcome from SA Water's Education officer, Jade. Jade shared a wealth of knowledge about the oldest Reservoir in SA, where the water at IQRA College comes from! Did you know that there is a huge underground pipe that connects the Happy Valley reservoir all the way to the Clarendon Weir? Did you also know that it takes 2-8 hours for water to be treated before it becomes safe to drink? The water treatment facility uses cool stuff like UV-light and engineered grains of sands that are all of the same size! We learnt that and so much more. Jade even did a live water treatment demonstration for us. At the end of it we get to explore the area to note down the local native flora and fauna. It's just like what bus driver Richard said, "A good way to start your Monday". Alhamdulillah.

Year 10’s Cosmic Journey: Exploring the Universe Through Science & Faith
The Mysterious Universe:
The year 10's have been on an adventure through the cosmos this term. From investigating the theory of The Big Bang, right down to the finer details of climate change. When studying the universe, it is essential that we always reflect back on our creator, Allah SWT.
He is the One Who has placed you as successors on earth and elevated some of you in rank over others, so He may test you with what He has given you. Surely your Lord is swift in punishment, but He is certainly All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Surah An'am 165
Our students are taught that the earth is an Amanah, and that Allah SWT has placed us caretakers of it. Students are constantly reminded to seek the connection between Quran and Science and are always baffled by the astounding revelations 1400 hundreds ago, long before modern science made many of these discoveries. These verses and connections have been highlighted on our ideation board for students to constantly reflect and contemplate the role of the modern Muslim student.

3D Cells in Focus: Bring Biology to Life Year 8 emerging Biologists
"Every great advance in science has issued from a new audacity of imagination." — John Dewey
This term, our Year 8 students have truly embodied the spirit of discovery in their biological studies, particularly through their innovative 3D cell projects. Their ability to grasp complex concepts and translate them into detailed, tangible models is nothing short of inspiring. These young scientists didn't just study cell biology, they brought it to life, enabling us all to see the unseen. Their dedication and creativity remind us that the journey of learning is as wonderful and intricate as the subjects we explore. Hats off to these remarkable students for their amazing work and the vivid worlds they have crafted for us all to learn from.
